It's gotten cold!
This afternoon I popped into the library while Simon took the kids to ride up and down on the escalators at the mall - their request for fun (lol) and had a few other errands to run while we were down there.
I found another Magic Tree House book for Nathan.
This evening while we were waiting for our dinner to cook (which I'd forgotten to turn on properly - an hour late! and had 2hrs cooking time - oops!) we lit the fire, closed all the curtains and had some family read-aloud time. It took about an hour to read through and was a really pleasurable feeling all warm and comfortable inside on this windy cold night.
I'm also reading a new book I bought about celebrating the seasons - we tend to naturally do this in our day to day life but it is nice to bring a little more intention to what we do.

sounds lovely! what is the seasons book?
Hi Brianna, it was one I've seen recommended in several places and most recently on Soulemama's site. Celebrating the Great Mother.
That sounds great. I read on someone's blog last October that part of what they do on Halloween is talk about what things they want winter to bring them and thought it was a lovely idea. Really makes the holiday mark the season (and not just mean spending money on plastic orange tat). Only works up here obviously but I suppose halloween starts summer for you so that could work.
Hi Nikki! you might like Celebrating the Southern Seasons by Juliet Batten if you haven't seen it already. It's great because it has the pagan/celtic traditions and elebrations, European Christian and the Maori (good info about what's happening in the nz bush at different times of year too) as well as suggestions about how to integrate these into personal celebrations of the seasons.
ps I did want to pop in and say damn you and damn those Magic tree house books! I finally found one at the library yesterday (they must be popular lol) and the boys made me read it in one session! My poor voice. And I'm going to have to read it again this afternoon! They were absolutely quiet and attentive though. It was brilliant apart from my hoarseness by the end. Good thing there seems to be a few in the series eh. I think we'll be reading some more ;>
I do like this blog of yours. Thanks for sharing ;>
Moonwaves, thanks for that. Yep, it's strange with all the celebrations at different times of the year when you're Down Under lol.
Anoushka! *waves* That book sounds really nice, no I haven't heard of it, will check it out.
Oh and Anoushka, lol about the Magic Tree House books. Yeah, Nathan just *loves* them and asks for one more chapter so I just intend to be able to sit down and do it in one sitting now. Funny enough, when I first started reading chapter books my voice would go hoarse as well, and Rose told me to get used to it and it would get better. True too! No more hoarse voice lol.
